Mit Email vom 07.09.2015 hat die FINA darüber informiert, dass zur Anerkennung eines Weltrekordes neben der Standardurinanalyse auch eine EPO Analyse notwendig ist. Dieses Erfordernis liest die FINA aus der Regel DC 5.3.3.2.

Derjenige Athlet, der einen Weltrekord schwimmt und sich innerhalb von 24h einer Dopingkontrolle unterzieht, sollte daher unbedingt darauf achten, dass die EPO Analyse im Dopingkontrollformular entsprechend angekreuzt ist. Sollte das Dopingkontrollformular kein entsprechendes EPO Analysefeld haben, sollte der Athlet den DCO vor Ort darauf hinweisen, dass seine Urinprobe – aufgrund des WR – zusätzlich auf EPO analysiert werden muss und dies im Bemerkungsfeld angeben.

“Through this correspondence we would like to remind you about the doping control procedures in the case of a World Record or a Junior World Record.

As per FINA Rule DC 5.3.3.2, "any Athlete equaling or breaking a World Record shall submit to Testing following the race. When a relay team breaks or equals a World Record, all Athletes swimming the relay shall be tested. If no Testing is conducted at the Competition, the Athletes shall be responsible for making arrangements to submit to Testing no later than 24 hours after the race. No World Record shall be recognised without a negative doping test certificate for all Prohibited Substances or Prohibited Methods identified on the Prohibited List for which an analytical technique is available."

This means that a urine sample shall be collected after the world record within 24 hours. This sample must be analysed according to the standard "in-competition menu" (as per to WADA International standard for Laboratory) with an additional analysis for Erythropoiesis Stimulating Agents ESAs (e.g EPO). It must be done only in a WADA-accredited laboratory that is allowed to perform the above standard and supplementary analyses.”
